bamboo

stones thrown at the pond
to catch the moon in it
fish rise at them

clouds gather and scatter
hearing flowers scream
we are all in this together

Certain things are better understood with faith.
We probably have to trust strangers
if we wanna be happy to be on a highway.
But on my narrow garden path, each step is enjoyable,
no matter what they do on their highway to nowhere.

they walk and walk
for decades
to go where
they cannot go on foot
passing wild flowers
cool streams
even their aging parents
over and over

how long will you
rake pebbles into order
as if they are
waves of your thoughts
just quit it already

endless night
too cold to sleep
big bright moon

long forgotten friend
just heard, died young
on a glorious spring day

Luck

E-mail Print PDF

good luck cloverDo you believe in luck? Enough to play the lottery?

[From "What does the Bible say about luck?"]
The main question is, do things happen by chance? If they do, then one can speak of someone being lucky or unlucky. But if they do not happen by chance, then it is inappropriate to use those terms.... .... ....
From an earthly perspective, things may seem to happen at random, but throughout the whole of Scripture, it is clear that God is in control of all of His creation and is somehow able to take the random acts of natural law, the free will of both good and evil men, and the wicked intent of demons and combine them all to accomplish His good and perfect will (Genesis 50:20; Job chapters 1 and 42; John 9:1-7). And Christians, specifically, are given the promise that He works all things, whether seemingly good or bad, together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Are we supposed to feel lucky all the time if we believe in God?

Whose arrows are these?

E-mail Print PDF

arrowsAre you still wondering why these terrible things are happening to you?

"It's just as if a man were wounded with an arrow thickly smeared with poison. His friends & companions, kinsmen & relatives would provide him with a surgeon, and the man would say, 'I won't have this arrow removed until I know whether the man who wounded me was a noble warrior, a priest, a merchant, or a worker.' He would say, 'I won't have this arrow removed until I know the given name & clan name of the man who wounded me... until I know whether he was tall, medium, or short... until I know whether he was dark, ruddy-brown, or golden-colored... until I know his home village, town, or city... until I know whether the bow with which I was wounded was a long bow or a crossbow... until I know whether the bowstring with which I was wounded was fiber, bamboo threads, sinew, hemp, or bark... until I know whether the shaft with which I was wounded was wild or cultivated... until I know whether the feathers of the shaft with which I was wounded were those of a vulture, a stork, a hawk, a peacock, or another bird... until I know whether the shaft with which I was wounded was bound with the sinew of an ox, a water buffalo, a langur, or a monkey.' He would say, 'I won't have this arrow removed until I know whether the shaft with which I was wounded was that of a common arrow, a curved arrow, a barbed, a calf-toothed, or an oleander arrow.' The man would die and those things would still remain unknown to him."

Brood of Vipers

viper
[Matthew 23:33] "You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation."

Is Jesus serious? Didn't He tell us not to even call our brothers fools?

Connectivism

E-mail Print PDF

connectivismWhat does it mean for all things to be interconnected much more than we can begin to imagine? Does that mean we would never know what we are doing?

Can we ever understand anything perfectly? It would depend on the purpose of such an understanding. Can we ever understand such a purpose perfectly? It would depend on what we intend to mean by the phrase 'to perfectly understand' a purpose. Does that mean it all depends on who we are?

How many ways can you think of the ways we can understand who we are?
